Worksafe has introduced better support for Victorian workers and volunteers with a mental injury in Victoria.  As of July 1, 2021, workers who have a psychological injury and are awaiting the outcome of their claim can now access financial support to engage in treatment services.

The average time taken to assess primary mental injury claims is 27 days whereas a claim for physical injury typically takes just seven days to determine. These provisional payments will assist workers to access essential health services such as general medical, psychology and psychiatry appointments and medication earlier.  Services can be accessed through the new provisional payments program for up to 13 weeks. Workers are able to access the provisional payments for up to 13 weeks even if their claim is rejected.

Changes have been made to the Workers Injury Claim Form- there will now be a Part A and a Part B to enable new early notification requirements.  Claimants will be notified within 24 hours of receiving Part A of the claim form from the employer if they are entitled to provisional payments.
