With less than 6 weeks to go before the expiration of MBS universal Telehealth mental health item numbers, we still have not received advice from the government of their intentions. This is absolutely unacceptable. The government have consistently used positive language about the success of Telehealth and have issued Media Releases last year stating 'Telehealth is here to stay', however until legislation is changed and item numbers are amended or extended, this remains a concerning issue.
AAPi will do all we can to ensure universal Telehealth is a permanent option available to all clients and psychologists.
This weekend, AAPi was featured in three of the largest newspapers in Australia; The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and Brisbane Times, calling for Telehealth to be urgently and permanently extended. You can read the article by clicking on this link to The Age. Please note the article was repeated in each newspaper.
Our message to government is clear- it is urgent and essential that Telehealth continues. Telehealth improves access to the vital expert mental health care psychologists provide. This is needed now more than ever.
We will be ramping up our efforts to receive an answer as quickly as possible. As always we will keep members updated.
