Psychedelic Assisted Therapy: Outcomes, learnings and insights from three years of the Authorised Prescriber Scheme
In July 2023, Australia became the first country in the world to reschedule MDMA and psilocybin for medical use for treatment resistant depression and PTSD under the Authorised Prescriber Scheme. There are now a number of Authorised Prescribers across the country, with established clinics and individual clinicians providing psychedelic-assisted therapies.
This panel will discuss the outcomes over the past three years of clinical PAT in Australia, with over 100 participants having received treatment with MDMA or psilocybin. The panel will explore what we have learned in the process and how the space continues to evolve as a new pathway for treatment is created in previously uncharted territory. Discussions will be led on systemic challenges and accessibility, the strengths of psychologists and the limitations of university informed training. The co-chairs will discuss complimentary modalities and directive vs inner directed approaches, as well their personal experience of working in the PAP space in various capacities. The co-chairs will share their hopes and visions for the future of PAP in Australia.
