Changes to mandatory reporting in Western Australia

Posted on 1 May 2024

On 1 May 2024 mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse in Western Australia will be expanded to psychologists and school counsellors (as recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse).

The Department of Communities mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse webpage includes information on mandatory reporting, available online and face-to-face training, and mandatory reporting resources such as frequently asked questions, a mandatory reporting guide and information sheets.

An information sheet for psychologists is available on the wa.gov.au website, similar to those already available for ministers of religion and out-of-home care workers.
