AAPi Update - 21 June 2024

This time of year, we receive many inquiries from psychologists seeking to join AAPi. One of the key questions, whether stated or implied, is why they should join AAPi. It’s always a pleasure to connect with so many new members, to learn about them and their journey, discuss what isn’t working for them, and let them know who we are and what we offer. Along with our super low membership fees, extensive free CPD, resources, journals and guides, our key point of difference is our responsiveness to our members, our inclusive community and our advocacy.

AAPi was founded with a clear and compelling mission: to advocate for and support the diverse needs of all psychologists. We strive to ensure that every psychologist has the resources, support, and advocacy to thrive professionally and personally.

This commitment is reflected in our advocacy efforts, which focus on:

  • Fair and Equitable Funding: We fight for fair remuneration and employment standards for all psychologists, ensuring they can provide high-quality care without financial strain.
  • Access to Services: We work tirelessly to improve access to psychological services in underserved and rural areas, ensuring no one is left without the support they need.
  • Professional Development: We provide ongoing professional development opportunities, keeping our members at the forefront of the latest research and practices in psychology.
  • Support and Advocacy: We offer robust support systems for our members, from professional guidance and HR advice to legal assistance, and advocate to government and regulatory bodies on their behalf.

AAPi stands out among professional associations for our unique approach to advocacy and support. We believe embracing the full psychological practice spectrum can create a stronger, more inclusive community. This manifests in several key ways:

  • Inclusivity: Unlike other organisations, AAPi represents all psychologists, regardless of their training pathway or area of practice. We believe that every psychologist brings valuable perspectives and skills to the table.
  • Member-Driven Advocacy: Our advocacy efforts are driven by our members' voices. We actively listen to their concerns and needs, ensuring our initiatives align with their real-world challenges.
  • Holistic Support: We offer comprehensive support that goes beyond professional development. Our services include support for psychologists, ensuring that those who provide care also receive the care they need.
  • Collaborative Community: AAPi fosters a collaborative and supportive community where members can share knowledge, seek advice, and build professional relationships.

As we move forward, AAPi remains steadfast in our mission to advocate for and support all psychologists across Australia. We will continue championing policies and initiatives that promote fair funding, equitable access to services, and professional growth. Our commitment to unity and diversity will remain at the core of everything we do, ensuring that every psychologist feels valued, supported, and empowered to make a difference.

Together, we can build a future where all psychologists are valued and have the tools, support, and resources they need to succeed, from the student stage through retirement and beyond. Thank you for being a part of this journey with AAPi. Your dedication and passion make our vision a reality.

I want to say a special thank you to our members who participated in a PHN focus group this week to help shape multidisciplinary care and our neurodiversity steering committee for their contribution to educational materials. We deeply appreciate your time and expertise.
