Urgent reform needed in Victoria’s Financial Assistance Scheme

AAPi Executive Director Tegan Carrison spoke to The Age regarding Victoria's troubled new Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS), which is leaving psychologists tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket - all because there's no way for them to bill the government directly.

This is leaving vulnerable crime victims to handle complex admin, just to get their therapists paid. Ms Carrison said “If psychologists can’t pay their bills, they’re not going to keep working in this scheme."

Urgent action is needed to prevent more victims from falling through the crack, with calls for a provider portal to allow psychologists to lodge invoices directly.
