AAPi Director Cailin Jordan spoke with radio 2GB and ABC radio Adelaide about AAPi's calls for psychology students to be included on the paid placement scheme, following calls by the Health Services Union to include all allied health students on paid placements.
Speaking on 2GB, Cailin said:
"So (as a psychology student) you try and do your casual job to support yourself, but then you have to also find time and space for these 1,000 hours of placement which are usually office or hospital hours as they're compulsory....what we're really asking is that the government would consider covering psychologists and putting them into paid placements as they do teachers to increase the diversity and accessibility for students."
On ABC Adelaide, Cailin said:
"I think if you look at the fact that (paid placements) have been done for teaching, nursing, midwifery, social work, yes, there is gaps in other areas, but I think in terms of our workforce planning for the future, it would be setting us up to have a really robust mental health care team going forward."
