AAPi in the Media - Longer Consults needed for mental health.

Posted on 9 October 2025

AAPi Executive Director Tegan Carrison is featured in this article in Medical Republic discussing new findings from the RACGP’s Health of the Nation report which reveal that mental health has become the most common reason Australians visit their GP. Tegan said, “While the GP is the first point of call for someone needing mental health support, psychologists are the experts in mental health and improvements must be made in increasing access to psychological care.”

Tegan's comments were also highlighted in this Croakey article, and AAPi President Sahra O'Doherty spoke to Radio 2SM regarding the report findings, noting "we need to streamline the referral process between GPs and psychologists so that people can get in easier and for it to be more affordable".
